Excalibur Tank Destroyer Guide: Pros, Cons

Excalibur tank destroyer guide: Personal Missions 2.0 reward TD

The VIExcalibur is a British Tier VI reward tank destroyer from Operation “Excalibur” in Personal Missions 2.0. You cannot buy it in the Premium Shop; it unlocks after you clear the full mission chain.

It is built around ambush play: limited turret traverse, high mobility for a TD, and enough tricks in the gun department that it feels different from a fixed casemate sniper. Below is a straight read on stats, crew, equipment, honest pros and cons, and how to stay alive long enough for the gun to matter.

Note: The Excalibur is a turreted TD with a narrow traverse arc and unusually high HP for Tier VI in its class. Treat it like a mobile glass cannon: vision, camo, and positioning do the real armor job.

Specifications and key features

VIExcalibur trades raw armor for burst damage potential and relocation speed. The turret does not behave like a medium tank: you get a limited traverse wedge, but it is still enough to track targets without swinging the hull on every shot. 840 HP is high for a Tier VI TD; treat that pool as one forgiven mistake, not a license to brawl.

Snapshot stats (in-game UI):

  • Class: Tank destroyer (ambush / flexible TD)
  • Tier: VI
  • Hit points: 840
  • Top speed: 50 km/h
  • Power-to-weight: about 18 hp/t
  • View range: 360 m base
  • Turret: limited traverse (roughly 90° each way) with a wide total firing arc on the field

Crew skills and perks

The VIExcalibur lives or dies on vision and camo. You also want the gun stable enough for quick pokes and the engine responsive enough to bail when the bush party ends. It is still not a brawler: paper armor means you plan every fight assuming you will be lit.

Skill roadmap (text summary):

  • Commander: Sixth Sense, Situational Awareness, Brothers in Arms, Recon
  • Gunner: Snap Shot, Armorer, Brothers in Arms, Deadeye
  • Driver: Smooth Ride, Clutch Braking, Brothers in Arms, Off-Road Driving
  • Loader: Safe Stowage, Adrenaline Rush, Brothers in Arms, Intuition

Because the hull is thin, Camouflage on the whole crew is a strong early investment alongside Repairs for city emergencies. Once the foundation is online, roll Brothers in Arms as a crew-wide breakpoint, then lean into gun handling (Snap Shot, Smooth Ride) so you can shoot without fully committing the hull. The last picks flex with your playstyle and whether you run food.

Equipment and loadouts

Default mindset: bush work first, DPM second, then whatever patches your weakest link (vision or raw crew stats).

Tip: Limited turret traverse means you can often keep the hull still while picking targets. That makes a Camouflage Net far more reliable than on a TD that has to wiggle constantly.

Primary setup (ambush focus)

Camouflage Net equipment icon Gun Rammer equipment icon Improved Ventilation equipment icon

  • Camouflage Net — extra camo while stationary; pairs well with turret-only adjustments.
  • Gun Rammer — shorter reload, more pressure in the same sightlines.
  • Improved Ventilation — small lift to everything if you already invest in vision and Brothers in Arms.

This trio maximizes DPM and overall crew output, but you lean harder on allies (or map knowledge) for spotting when you are not the one lighting targets.

Alternative setup (more self-spotting)

Binocular Telescope equipment icon Camouflage Net equipment icon Gun Rammer equipment icon

  • Binocular Telescope — swap vents for stationary vision when you expect to hold a line alone.
  • Keep Camouflage Net + Gun Rammer so damage output does not collapse.

When the net is up and you are still, the combo lets you light approaches yourself without turning the TD into a pretend light tank.

Pros and cons

What works

  • High HP for a Tier VI TD — forgives one bad trade more than typical paper TDs.
  • Strong gun package options — including HESH for meme-tier punishes when the matchup cooperates.
  • Solid gun handling — quick aim, usable depression, wide practical arc.
  • Mobility — relocates fast enough to reset after a bad lamp.
  • Crew layout — lines up with the British turreted TD line for skill reuse.
  • Economy — cheap shells help it earn quietly when you stay alive.

What hurts

  • Large silhouette — fewer “perfect” bushes than you want.
  • Weak armor — spotted in the open equals a fast ticket out.
  • Turret vulnerabilities — module damage and HE splashes to the turret rear are real threats.
  • Shell velocity — long-range snaps on moving targets are painful; play closer to mid lines.

How to play the Excalibur

VIExcalibur fields two guns. The 120 mm HESH option and the 76 mm gun fill different jobs: pick for the matchup and map, not for the garage highlight reel.

Gun choice and pacing

120 mm HESH: chunky alpha with about 70 mm HE penetration on paper. Fun when it works, but long reload and lower sustained DPM punish misses. Use it when you can control distance and target profiles.

76 mm gun: lower per-shot damage, faster reload, strong accuracy with sub-2 s aim and about 0.30 base dispersion in practice builds. The 165 mm standard pen is fine at Tier VI but asks for premium rounds against some Tier VIII fronts. It is the default workhorse for most maps.

Positioning and vision

Camo is only average on a tall chassis, so crew camo, net, and bushes are not optional flex picks. Without them, you lose the game the moment someone lights you. Stack view range (skills, optics or binocs depending on loadout) so you are not always waiting on someone else to spot for you.

Mobility and escapes

The engine pushes about 18 hp/t, so hitting 50 km/h happens quickly on downhill or paved paths. Use that to rotate early, not to yolo mid. The 840 HP pool buys time, but Tier VIII games still erase mistakes.

Important: Play like a third-line support TD. Let others tank vision risk, punish what they light, and use −10° gun depression to expose only the turret on ridges when the map allows.

Ridge rubble is your friend: dip the hull, keep the gun active, and drive away the moment you lamp. The mobility is there to save you, not to justify ego peeks.

Verdict

VIExcalibur is a niche reward that pays off if you enjoy vision games, quick follow-up shots, and second-line pressure. It will not forgive lazy positioning, yet it rewards clean macro with mobility and gun choice that break the usual “rooted TD” script.

If you finish PM 2.0 for it, you get a usable credit farmer with crew synergy toward the British turreted TD line, plus a playstyle lesson in patience. That is the real long-term drop, not just another garage trophy.
